Adventures in PNG 2 - GOING BACK TO MY ROOTS

I have mentioned in previous newsletters that  my work in Papua New Guinea is offering me MORE that the opportunity to achieve some amazing, pivotal work for a great organisation.

My family on my father's side is from PNG - so this work has also given me that great opportunity to go back to my roots and a bit of a personal discovery tour as well.  My client has a base in the port of Lae, which is so close to where my father was born it's ridiculous! Lae is where my grandparents lived before fleeing the Japanese and coming to Australia as refugees in 1942. I found out that were going to be travelling to Lae the day after the 7th anniversary of my father's death - and the week of my travels - making this trip quite a significant and exciting one!!

So just last week,  I spent  8  full-on, adventurous and busy days - in my hiking boots in PNG traveling to various sites where my client has significant business.  I did 7 flights in 8 days - with the standard travel day starting at 4am - and finishing around 9pm. Standard business day - 7am - 9pm (slave drivers!) I also visited 2 Gold mine camp operations as well as a commercial catering operation at a university. Here are some funny stories about Adventures in PNG 2. I hope you have a laugh!!!

WHOOOOHOOOO!!!!!

Candles for Community - Soy candles with spice and soul - raising money for Lucy in the Congo

I recently discovered the benefits of burning natural candles made from soy – as opposed to the candles most people are used to burning made out of paraffin wax – which is a petroleum based product that emits toxic carcinogens when burned.

I had been burning a beautifully fragranced candle in my office for a few months – until it burned away leaving a sooty mess! I started to question how BAD burning paraffin is and started looking for natural alternatives – and I found SOY! Read more - about the benefits of burning 100% natural candles made from soy  - Zulu’s championing the cause for natural Soy Candles - the answer is clear

Zulu's Candles for Community aims to raise $2000  to help supoort  Lucy Hobgood – Brown in the Congo this December ! Every item purchased includes a $1.50 donation to Lucy's Congo Canoe Challenge

KEEP ABREAST OF BREAST CANCER - This disease – that affects 1:8 women in Australia.

Every October – I am faced with the issue Breast Cancer as I remember my dear mother, Lynette – who passed away on 12 October 1993 at the age of 52 after a five-year battle with the disease. I am considered "High Risk" for breast cancer because of my  "significant family history " with this disease  - so I feel I have every right to champion this cause!

NOW is the time to find out about Breast Cancer.

  •  Women aged 50-69 should have a mammogram every two years.
  • Just because you are not of this age group does NOT mean that you should not know what to be looking out for!

To ALL women (and men too) – particularly young women who may think that Breast Cancer is not a topic they need to think about right now - YOU DO!  Here is the place to start - and NOW.
